What Did You Miss?

Regina Puckett

Gold, silver and pearls stacked – quietly collected

Until death taps you on the shoulder unsuspected

And then your prized treasures gather corrupt rust

While your body decays and turns to dust to dust

I ask what good was your race to win every prize

When your body like your ancestors only dies

What did you miss in your quest to be the best

What good are those trinkets in your eternal rest

Death doesn’t let you pack luggage for the cold grave

So don’t let gold and riches turn you into their slave
