This Thing Called Time

Regina Puckett

People are always saying my dreams are too big

Instead of well-wishes my distracters offer a dig

What does it matter to them if I reach toward the sky

It’s my hard work and I don’t shed their tears when I cry

If you didn’t come here to help carry this heavy load

Stand out of my way and let me pay what’s owed

I’ll do all of the heavy lifting up this mountainside

I’ll wipe away the sweat and every tear I’ve cried

Because dreams are always worth this steep climb

What else am I to do with this thing called time?
