Enjoy the Banquet

Regina Puckett

A river of lights, traveling to nowhere

Each boat of metal – a leather chair

Transporting humanity back and forth

With their compasses pointed north

But even though they don’t feel lost

Each trip comes at such a high cost

The sun comes up as the trip begins

And sunset falls as our travel ends

What happened in between we wasted

Because along the way we never tasted

The feast the journey so kindly offered

To us it was just another day we suffered

So tomorrow as you float on the river of life

Enjoy the banquet and avoid the fleeting strife
