A Thousand Words
Regina Puckett

I hear the strained silence
It sounds so much like compliance
But what does your heart want
It can’t be this lacking gaunt
Or this unfilled, heavy heart
That only shows this splitting part
That only reveals this empty space
That once was our own special place
Speak to me what you really feel
So I’ll know what’s fake and what’s real
Say something besides what I want to hear
For a moment be frank, honest and sincere
A few words of realness is so much better
Than a thousand words that only fetter
